    Preventing Osteoporosis

Action to maximize peak bone mass should be taken during the childhood years to ensure young girls and their caregivers receive information on preventing osteoporosis and related fractures later in life.

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation(NOF), an estimated 54 million U.S. adults are at risk for osteoporosis and low bone mass, and one in two women and up to one in four men over age 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis.

To see if you are at increased risk to develop osteoporosis you can get genetic testing.

    Menopause

Menopause, when a woman stops menstruating, typically occurs at some point between the ages of 45 and 55.
    Every woman experiences menopause.
But the symptoms that come with it, like hot flashes, vary greatly from person to person. Experts have found 4 different types of hot flashes. Which group describes you?

These symptoms are the result of a decrease in estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone produced by the ovaries.

Other symptoms include vaginal dryness, mood swings, and insomnia.

The health of menopausal and postmenopausal women mandates a holistic approach because estrogen deficiency affects many organ systems.

Treatment options include non-hormonal (herbals), hormonal (creams, sprays, pills, vaginal rings or tablets and injectable pellets), and antidepressants.
